NDTA Senior Tournament August 2008
The NDTA staged its 2008 Senior Tournament at the picturesque Tewantin Tennis Club. Players from the various NDTA affiliated clubs competed in mens, ladies and mixed doubles, providing some welcome match play.
In Mens Division 1 the winners were Frank Pearce and Gary Peterson, who entertained the onlookers with a strong all round display of stroke making.
In Division 2, Rick Robinson and Bryan Batch took the honours, edging out runners up Michael Curtin and John Richmond.
In the Ladies Division, Donna Butler and Beverley Evans won convincingly, defeating all other competitors in the round Robin format.
In the Mixed Doubles, the Division 1 title was won in similar fashion by Vivienne Matthews and St. John Tyrwhitt, with Beverley Evans and Doug McConnell the runners up.
In Mixed Division 2, Donna Butler and Noel Brown ran out winners with Noriko Farrell and Ian Walker the runners up.
All in all, a most successful and enjoyable event, smoothly organized by Arthur Ziakas, and played in some of the best winter weather seen this season.
